The INRETS conference - Marseille, France INRETS -The French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research- is contributing to better understanding of the fundamentals and factors behind powered two-wheeler accidentalness and, consequently, to define conditions for enhancing their safety. The objective of the conference was to make a statement on the new findings produced by these studies and to put forward major research axes for development. It was an opportunity for the motorcycle community to highlight training being the 1st priority of all, make an overview of current EU training situation, and present the IRT project in the context of the implementation of the 3rd driving licence directive to be implemented by member states. 15/02/2009 | Irish Road Safety Authority (RSA) recommends the IRT manuel. During a meeting between the Irish Road Safety Authority (R.S.A) and the group of Instructors piloting the introduction of a new Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.) scheme in Ireland, Marc O'Loideoin, a member of the Supervisory Board of the I.R.T Project and co-author of the Manual gave a presentation of The Initial Rider Training Project. The presentation focused on the use of the Manual in conjunction with delivering the C.B.T. curriculuum. This was well received by the Instructors many of whom commented after the meeting that it would be of great assistance given the varied conditions and situations in which training is to be delivered in Ireland. The project has been welcomed by the R.S.A. and recommended as a useful resource by Michael Dolan Head of the R.S.A's Approved Driving Instructor Unit (The A.D.I.) and an aid to all Instructors involved in Motorcycle Training. |
"It is heartening to see my own country go from
a situation of no formal training at all, to what is regarded all over
the EU as 'best practise' in the area of Rider Training." Marc

08/2008 | The Initial Rider Training Programme translated into French and Spanish Since the report was presented to the EU Commission it has become clear that for this work to have any impact on the implementation of the 3rd Driving Licence Directive the syllabus must be available in more than just English. This has been partly addressed by professional translations of the syllabus being commissioned by the FIM into French and Spanish as an additional contribution. Additional translations will assist the EU in its external programmes to countries outside Europe. A key benefit of this work is that it is not culturally specific. The work was conducted by a multinational team of experts. As the United Nations has succeeded in internationalising traffic signs the syllabus content needs little if any modification to make it applicable worldwide. |
